How to do it

There are multiple ways to identify the serial number of your GoPro camera or accessory. For cameras, the serial number will be listed in your camera settings, inside the battery compartment or exterior of camera, on the box, or in the .txt file in the MISC folder of your SD card once it's been used in the camera. Choose your product from the list below to learn how to find the serial number.

Locate the Serial Number in your camera's settings:

HERO11/10/9 Black

  • This is found in the camera's menu. Swipe down from the top, swipe left, tap [Preferences] > [About] > [Camera Info].

  • The serial number can also be found in the battery compartment below the CE icon. It's small and you'll need some light.

HERO11 Black Mini

In the camera menu:
  1. With the camera on, press the User-added image [Status/Pair Button] six times until you see [About].
  2. Press the User-added image [Shutter Button] one time.
  3. The serial number (starts with C344) will scroll along the bottom of the camera's display.

The serial number can also be found on the rear of the camera behind the left folding finger:

It is crazy tiny, so it might be beneficial to have a light source or an electron microscope to view the serial number.

HERO8 Black, MAX

 

  • This is found in the camera's menu. Swipe down from the top, tap [Preferences] > [About] > [Camera Info].

  • Find the number in the camera's menu ([Preferences] > [About This GoPr]o > [Serial Number]).

  • Find the number printed on a sticker on bottom of the camera's box.

  • Find the number in the version.txt file, located in the MISC folder on any SD card that has been used in the camera.

  • Find the number printed in the battery compartment. NOTE: The sticker is sideways in the compartment and may difficult to read. If necessary, we suggest taking a picture and zooming in to help with legibility.

Remove the battery and locate the metal FCC plate inside the battery bay, directly on top of the SD card slot. Your serial number will be 14-characters in length, and begin with "C31."
 
 
  • Remove the battery and locate the white sticker inside the battery bay. Your serial number will be 14-characters in length, and begin with "C332."

  • Remove the battery and locate the white sticker inside the battery bay. Your serial number will be 14-characters in length, and begin with "C31."

  • Look on the inside of the I/O door next to the charging ports and SD card. Your serial number will be 14-characters in length, and begin with "C32"

HERO4 Silver & Black
  • Remove the battery and locate the white sticker inside the battery bay. Your serial number will be 14-characters in length, and begin with "C31."

  • Look on the inside of the I/O door on the side of the camera.  Your serial number will be 14-characters in length, and begin with "C31."

  • Look on the bottom of the camera (next to the housing tabs). Your serial number will be 14-characters in length, and begin with "C31."

  • The serial number is etched on the rear of the device. Your serial number will be 15 characters in length, and start with "A12813."

  • The serial number is etched on the rear of the device. Your serial number will be 14-characters in length, and start with "A111."

  • The serial number is written on the inside of the charging port flap. Your serial number will be 15 characters in length, and start with "A12914."

Locate the serial number in the version.txt file

  1. Insert your SD card into your computer.
  2. Locate the SD card in File Explorer or Finder and open it.
  3. Open the MISC Folder.

  1. View the serial number. In this area, you can also view your camera's current firmware version.
